02Painted by Foujita
Chapelle Foujita
A chapel entirely designed and painted by Léonard Foujita, consecrated in 1966 after his conversion. Small, silent, and quite unlike anything else. Seasonal opening.

03Closed for redevelopment
Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims
DO NOT PUBLISH: the museum has been closed since September 2019 for a full redevelopment by the Aires Mateus practice. Reopening is announced for 2027. Publishing this would send a guest to a closed door.

Villa Demoiselle
A villa built between 1904 and 1908 and since restored, where Art nouveau gives way to Art deco. Open to visitors.

05Roman arch, third century
Porte de Mars
The widest surviving arch of the Roman world, raised in the third century when Reims was called Durocortorum. Visible from the street, freely and at any hour.

Basilique Saint-Rémi
The Romanesque former abbey church, listed by UNESCO alongside the cathedral and the Palais du Tau. Far quieter than the cathedral, and just as striking.

10Where the war ended
Musée de la Reddition
The map room where the German surrender was signed on 7 May 1945, left exactly as it was. A short and powerful visit, a step from the station.

A second-century underground gallery, all that remains of the Roman forum, beneath today's Place du Forum. Entry is free, but opening is seasonal, so check before setting off.

Fort de la Pompelle
The fort that held out through the First World War, east of Reims, now a museum. It holds a major collection of German helmets. You will need a car.

15The cathedral treasury
Palais du Tau
The former archbishops' palace next to the cathedral, listed by UNESCO. Home to the treasury and the cathedral's original statues.
